4th District

Jan Marcason nearly scored an outright majority in the 4th District race with 5,216 votes. Mel Solomon was her closest competitor, setting the two up for the March 27 general election.

“The hard work that I put in over the past two years has paid off for a pretty significant victory,” Marcason said. “But I assume it’ll be a very intense month, and we’re willing to work very hard for a victory.”

Solomon said he planned to continue to run a traditional campaign. The vote will determine a replacement for George Blackwood, who decided not to run again.

Marcason is the former executive director of the Mid America Assistance Coalition. Besides her work with the coalition, which supports food pantries, homeless shelters and other charities, she is a past president of the Women’s Political Caucus.

Solomon, an architect whose work includes UMKC’s Bloch School, formerly served on the Landmarks Commission and is a past president of the Armour Hills Homes Association.
Mark Forsythe finished with 1,969 votes; Ezekiel Amador drew 1,878.
